Accent on Access, our free after-school violin program, has been running in West Fresno since 2011. Many Access students are now also members of our youth orchestras, and a large number have also participated in our intensive FOOSA Festival/Fresno Summer Orchestra Academy. One of our participants had the honor of participating in the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Take a Stand Festival in Los Angeles in July 2017, with Gustavo Dudamel conducting (and had participated in all the similar festivals hosted by the LA Philharmonic, starting in 2015). Now we’ve got two of our students routinely being flown to LA each summer to be conducted by Gustavo Dudamel at Walt Disney Concert Hall as part of what is now called the YOLA National Festival…and we have more in training!
We are grateful to the Fresno County Office of Education, the Bonner Family Foundation, the Central Valley Community Foundation, the California Arts Council, and the East Fresno Kiwanis Club for their continuing support of this program. We are extremely grateful also to Edison Bethune Charter Academy and Madison Elementary School for welcoming our programs, and to our newest supporter, the D’Addario Foundation.
