| The premier orchestra, the 58-year-old Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, is currently comprised of musicians aged 14 to 22. They do not play any arrangements; only original music is performed by these musicians. A sampling of composers whose original works have been performed by the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra include Bach, Barber, Beethoven, Berlioz, Bernstein, Bizet, Borodin, Boyce, Brahms, Bruch, Copland, Couperin, Dvorak, Elgar, Faure, Gershwin, Glinka, Grieg, Handel, Haydn, Hindemith, Holst, Kodaly, Kreisler, Lalo, Mahler, Mayuzumi, Mendelsohn, Mozart, Mussorgsky, Pachelbel, Prokofiev, Respighi, Rimsky-Korsakov, Saint-Saens, Schubert, Schumann, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Strauss, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Vaughan Williams, Verdi, Wagner, Walton, and Weber. | |

Musicians from all over central California attend weekly rehearsals from September through May. Rehearsals are on Sunday nights, from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm at California State University, Fresno. Sectional rehearsals may be offered during the year as part of the program. |

The YPO goes on a major European concert performance tour every four years. The next tour date is the Summer of 2009.
Many of our players hold principal chairs in the All-State Orchestras and, upon graduation, in university and college orchestras. Some of our students go on to attend Interlochen, Yale, Harvard, Eastman, Julliard, and other well-known schools. Some hold double majors in music or conducting and law or medicine. Most go on to perform in orchestras, ensembles, bands, or some type of musical outlet. |

It is strongly recommended that the student be enrolled in his/her school music program if at all possible. |
